1. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small values a website can ask a browser to retain and send with later requests. Local storage is a related browser technology that keeps values on a device without automatically attaching them to every request. This static build uses local storage, not JavaScript-set cookies. We use “cookie preferences” as a familiar label for controls covering these similar technologies.
The website does not load analytics libraries, advertising pixels, third-party fonts, remote photographs or embedded map services. Its maps and artwork are inline illustrations. A hosting platform may have separate infrastructure behaviour; no unspecified hosting cookie or processor is claimed to have been audited through these files.
2. Storage inventory
The following inventory describes the storage implemented by the shared website script. “Not installed” means that the category has no active tracker or storage key, rather than an undisclosed service waiting behind a consent switch.
| Category | Name / technology | Purpose and contents | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | rsg-consent.v1Local storage | Stores your choice, functional-storage permission, policy version, analytics-disabled flag and expiry timestamp. No contact details. | 180 days; checked on a subsequent visit. |
| Analytics | Not installed | No visitor measurement, cross-page tracking service or analytics identifier. | Not applicable. |
| Functional | rsg-saved-guides.v1Local storage | Remembers selected guide identifiers only after functional consent. | Up to 180 days, never beyond the current consent expiry. |
3. What the three choices do
Accept All allows the optional saved-guide feature and stores your decision. It does not activate analytics or advertising because those services are absent. Reject Non-Essential stores a minimal rejection preference and removes saved-guide data where browser storage is available. The editorial pages, route selector and budget calculator remain usable.
Preferences opens a panel where you can choose functional storage separately. Essential preference storage is not an optional tracking category: it exists to remember the privacy decision you request. Merely opening the panel does not grant consent. Closing it without saving leaves the previous choice unchanged. If you have not made a choice, the banner remains available.
4. Changing or withdrawing consent
Use “Cookie preferences” in the footer of any page to reopen the panel. Turn off saved guides and save to withdraw functional consent. Existing optional guide data is then removed where browser permissions allow. You can also use the rejection button when the banner is displayed. Withdrawal affects future storage and does not change the lawfulness of processing that relied on an earlier valid consent.
If your browser blocks local storage, the site can remember a decision only for the current page session. A notice explains that the choice may reappear after navigation. The saved-guide feature will not claim a persistent save when storage fails. Preferences belong to a browser and device; they do not synchronise to other devices or private browsing windows.
5. Browser opt-out and deletion instructions
In Chrome, open Settings, then Privacy and security, and look for site data or site settings. In Firefox, open Settings, Privacy & Security, then Cookies and Site Data. In Safari, use Settings, Privacy, and Manage Website Data. In Microsoft Edge, search Settings for cookies and site data. Menu wording varies by browser version and operating system.
Find this domain and remove its stored data. Choose website data or local storage as well as cookies if the browser distinguishes them. Removing only cookies may leave local storage intact. Clearing the essential preference makes the banner appear again on your next visit. Blocking all site storage can prevent preferences from persisting but does not prevent reading the guides.
6. Expiry, external services and questions
Expired entries are discarded when the website script next checks them. A browser may retain unused local-storage bytes until that visit or until you clear them manually; the script cannot run while the site is closed. Contact-form drafts and calculator values are not stored by this code, although browser autofill or session restoration may retain form state independently.
Following an external link or opening an email application brings the destination service’s own privacy practices into scope. For questions about this implementation, see the privacy policy or use [email protected]. Business identity and mailbox details are illustrative as explained in that policy. Any future analytics integration requires an updated inventory and appropriate consent before activation.
